  • 2 tablespoons fresh coriander
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper powder

Steps In Making

Moong Dal Batter

  • Soak moong dal for 3-4 hours. Post that drain off the excess water
  • Now transfer the moong dal in the mixer grinder. Add a green chilli, ginger and 2-3 tablespoons of water if needed. Now grind till it forms into a coarse batter.
  • Transfer the batter in a bowl and add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, salt, coriander and mix till well combined.

The Paneer filling

  • Place a pan over medium flame and add oil in it. Once it turns hot add ginger and saute for a minute.
  • Now add chopped onions and carrots and saute for around 2 minutes.
  • Further add capsicum, red and yellow bell peppers and green chillies and saute for a minute. Do not over cook.
  • Now add crushed paneer and mix until well combined.
  • Further add salt, black pepper powder and fresh coriander and mix well. The paneer filling for our moong dal chila is ready.

Make Moong dal chila

  • Place a pan over medium flame and once it turns hot add little oil and spread it evenly. Now with a tissue paper remove the excess oil.
  • Now add a spoonful of Moong dal batter and spread it evenly in a round shape, like a dosa. Put ¼ teaspoon oil on the top and let it cook for 3-4 minutes.
  • Once done, flip the Moong dal chila and let it cook from the other side too.
  • Now pour a large spoonful of the paneer filling on one side of the chila and cover it with the other side.
  • Serve hot with curd or chutney.

Recipe Notes

  • Do not add excess water while grinding, as the batter might turn very thin.
  • Add any veggies of your choice. I have added minimum seasoning in the filling but if you want you can add more spices as per your preference.
  • Do not grind the moong dal into a very fine paste, a little coarse texture gives better taste.
  • You can also add some sprouts while preparing the batter.
